BAD LOVE STRIKES
I have been a board-certified cancer specialist practicing radiation oncology for 32 years as of July 1st, 2019. I am the youngest of three children and have two older sisters, Kathy Williams and Denise Bourg. As a cancer doctor, I know firsthand that cancer can indiscriminately affect anyone at any time. In December of 2016, cancer hit home for our family when my sister, Kathy Williams, was diagnosed with stage III, triple-negative breast cancer (a particularly virulent type). Kathy bravely accepted her diagnosis and steadfastly endured nearly six months of very intensive chemotherapy, followed by double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. She then worked hard at physically and mentally recovering from all of her treatments. I am pleased to report that she has been in a complete remission and cancer-free since late summer 2017.
For as long as I can remember, Kathy and I have shared a love for any story that involves time travel. Two years after her diagnosis of breast cancer, in early December 2018, I read the story of the Phantom Fortress and became inspired to write this book based on time travel. I actually started writing on January 14th of this year; many days later, I realized that I had started writing on Kathy’s birthday. Therefore, it is only fitting and right that I dedicate this book to my sister Kathy Williams, who has been—and will continue to be—an inspiration to us all.
BAD LOVE TIGERS
I have been a board-certified cancer specialist practicing radiation oncology for 33 years as of
July 1 st 2020. I am the youngest of three children and have two older sisters, Kathy Williams and
Denise Bourg. My first novel, “Bad Love Strikes” was dedicated to Kathy, who remains in
remission from her breast cancer. This second novel, “Bad Love Tigers” is dedicated to Denise
Bourg, the middle child in our family of three siblings.
Growing up together, Denise and I were close enough in age to play games together (mainly
Monopoly, Risk and card games such as Go Fish and War). While we evenly divided our victories
and losses in Monopoly and card games, Denise consistently suffered humiliating losses in the
game of Risk for many years. Finally late one night when we were older, she won in a marathon
game of Risk. With the curse broken, she called our family in the wee hours of the night
informing them of her victory! It was a hilarious ending to a long drought!
Denise has a true heart of gold and a passion to selflessly help and serve other people during
her journey through this life. Devoted to her strong faith in God and to her husband (Curt
Bourg, a retired airline executive), she has moved more than twenty times and is now happily
retired in Virginia! She has worked as a Math Teacher, Cheerleading Coach, a Florist and a Non-
Profit executive amongst other things. She has volunteered to help homeless people get back
on their way again into society.
Being close in age, Denise and I negotiated for our favorite T.V. shows growing up together in
the 1960s and 1970s. We found common ground with both science fiction and especially spy
and espionage-themed shows. “Bad Love Tigers” has plenty of espionage and science fiction to
make it the perfect book to dedicate to Denise. She her husband and I are all graduates of the
University of Missouri – Columbia. We are all tied together as “Mizzou Tigers”!
BAD LOVE BEYOND
I have been a board-certified cancer specialist practicing radiation oncology for 34 years as of
July 1 st 2021. I am the youngest of three children and have two older sisters, Kathy Williams and
Denise Bourg. My first novel, “Bad Love Strikes” was dedicated to Kathy, who remains in
remission from her breast cancer. The second novel, “Bad Love Tigers” was dedicated to
Denise Bourg, the middle child in our family of three siblings. I am the proud parent of two
children: Ashley Daugherty is my oldest daughter and Christie Schewe is my youngest daughter.
This third book, “Bad Love Beyond” is dedicated to Ashley.
Growing up, Ashley was a fun, athletic and active child who embraced her risk-taking genetics
and loved adventure of all types. There was not a roller coaster or theme park ride too fast or
too daring for her to try – and then try again and again! She learned to ride hunter-jumper
horses at a young age and competed in the Midwest circuit earning innumerable ribbons and
trophies along the way. I remember watching her at horse shows. They would show her the
route to take one time and then she would ride and jump her horse through that route trying to
set the fastest time without knocking down fence rails. I was so impressed. I couldn’t imagine
memorizing the expected route that fast, much less jump fences against a time clock!
Ashley was an outstanding student and cheerleader. Throughout her school years and into
adulthood, she has shown an amazing ability to create and draw pictures of all types. She has
that artistic gene that is now spilling over to her children and could someday lead to illustrating
children’s books. She met her soulmate and now her husband in California, Chad Daugherty.
Ashley and Chad have built an outstanding marriage together and they are the proud parents of
my two grandchildren, Gracie and Olivia Daugherty. They live in southern California where
Ashley is an incredible Mom to Gracie and “Livy” and actively volunteers at the girls’ school.
Their young family together and their future shine brightly in front of them.
Ashley always dreamed and fantasized of being a secret spy agent growing up – one of our all-
time favorite movies together is True Lies. She loves the Bad Love Book Series and would fit
right in with the Bad Love Gang. I love you, Ashley, and could not be more proud of you and all
that you have accomplished and will certainly undertake and realize in your future.
BAD LOVE MEDICINE
I have been a board-certified cancer specialist practicing radiation oncology for 34 years as of July 1, 2021. I am the youngest of three children and have two older sisters, Kathy Williams and Denise Bourg. My first novel, Bad Love Strikes was dedicated to Kathy, who remains in remission from her breast cancer. The second novel, Bad Love Tigers was dedicated to Denise Bourg, the middle child in our family of three siblings. I am the proud parent of two children, Ashley Daugherty and Christie Schewe. Book three, Bad Love Beyond, was dedicated to my oldest daughter, Ashley. This fourth novel, Bad Love Medicine, is dedicated to my youngest daughter, Christie.
As she was growing up, I would describe Christie as a student-athlete who naturally made good grades in school and could well play any sport that she embraced. She was a superb cheerleader all the way through college. Christie was an absolute “water-bug” who loved to swim, waterski, jet ski, and go boating while soaking up the sun and listening to music. From her earliest years, it became apparent that she treasured and possessed strong social skills and was anything but shy. She always had a close circle of friends and quickly replenished that sphere whenever we moved to a new location. In one of our fondest memories together, I coached her soccer team when she was ten-years-old. In the middle of close games, we would all huddle together with our hands held in the middle of a circle and scream, “En Fuego!” Our arms would all go up towards the sky as we yelled and then we were “on fire” to be victorious!
Along with her innate social talents, Christie is an instinctive leader, and this has become apparent in her flourishing career in sales and marketing. I love you, Christie and could not be prouder! You have the whole world and the future out ahead of you and I know you will make the most of it!
